Sometimes being a dog seems like a lot of fun. My dog,Lola, did this for 5 minutes. I called her name. I whistled. I shook a toy around. Nothing was more interesting than her own reflection in a bass drum head.

That, or she has brain damage.

This ludicrous Pekingese won Best in Show at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show last night. Worse still, it beat out a really cute Dachshund for the title, a superior animal in every respect. And I didn’t even see a Labrador Retriever, which is obviously the best all around dog.

When are they going to add a Fan Favorite winner to this dinosaur of a contest?

I’m very excited that The Darkness are reunited and recording again. They were one of my favorite bands of the aughts and there isn’t one person in the world who doesn’t like this song. They, like old Blink 182, seemed to be one of the only famous bands who were having a lot of fun being in a famous band. If I were in a famous band I think I would always be in a good mood. Anyway, this is their new song and I obviously like it.

I heard another new one called “Cannonball” on the radio during my honeymoon. My new wife and I were in a gift shop in The Seychelles when I heard Justin Hawkins’ signature falsetto. I ran over to the corner of the store where the radio was and stood facing the wall like a psycho until the song was over. I turned the data plan on my phone on for a minute so I could email myself the name of the song, too. I don’t think Vanessa knew quite how much I liked The Darkness. I still can’t find that song, sadly. If anyone gets a lead on a non-live version, let me know. I’ll pay anything (up to, and including, $1.29 on iTunes)

At the festival last year I had a day off from new faces standup and went to see the character showcase. It was amazing. So many hysterical, talented people just killing in the weirdest ways possible. If you have a chance to catch any of the auditions make sure you go. Everyone puts their best foot forward for JFL and you won’t be disappointed.
